Candee wants to bring government closer to the people
 Billings Gazette - Thu, May 22, 2008

"He's perhaps best-known for giving out $500 to $1,000 scholarships to deserving high school graduates in several Eastern Montana towns, including Sidney, Richey and Forsyth. Candee estimated that he's handed out $50,000 worth of scholarships in the past 17 years.

Candee said he wants to bring the federal government closer to the people, and has a plan to do it: A dozen House members at a time could hold periodic meetings at different locations around the country, including Montana, to get them out of Washington, D.C., to talk directly with people about their concerns.

Then, if Congress ignored the will of the people on an issue like country-of-origin labeling of meat products, "the people could be on 'em," he said.

"Democracy could be reborn," Candee said. "It could be the change this country needs."

Candee also isn't raising any money, and said he never cashed a check that Gov. Brian Schweitzer sent him for the 2006 campaign: "I just didn't feel right cashing it. I'm doing it on my own dime."

Candee has had the idea to use flour, or grain dust, as an energy source for nearly 40 years. Now, he has a patent pending on this alternative to power an internal combustion engine."

"The mere word MONTANA is a powerful word of great impression. When
you travel around this country and mention you are from Montana, people
are intrigued. People come to Montana because of Montana. It is thought
of as the last frontier with good, hardworking, honest people. I have a
deep abiding interest and love for all generations of our people and
the land we call home. Within me is a willingness and determination to
learn of our many concerns and represent and protect Montana's
interests in a meaningful way."     -Bob Candee
